Le Mortimer Bourg-de-Four Tel.: +41 022 310 13 98
Mortimer is home to one of the best chocolate cakes in Geneva. A lot of Genevans go here in the afternoon for the cake or some nice french beer. Bastian, ground crew | St. Pierre Cathedral Left Bank Tel.: +41 22 311 75 75 www.saintpierre-geneve.ch
Climb to the top of the north tower for a sweeping view over the city and the lake. Take in the view, then turn your eyes downward and head for the underground. Underneath the cathedral is a major archeological dig, with remains of previous churches and gathering places going back centuries. There is a headphone tour in English, well worth the price. William | Musée d'Art et d'Histoire 2, rue Charles-Galland Tel.: +41 22 418 26 00 www.ville-ge.ch
The collection of this airy museum includes works by Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh, Cézanne and Picasso. That's what you expect and you have probably their works before, no surprises there. The real treat is in the second-floor galleries: the Genevan landscapes of the Swiss painters Francois Diday and his student Alexandre Calame. That's why you come here. Kelly |
| | Les Grottes A wacky housing complex (a bit like Gaudi) well worth a wander. Just north of the Cointrin main railway station. Han | |
