Give yourself time to check out a few of the museums and galleries in the city. Among the most popular apart from the Vikingskipshuset are the Nasjonalgalleriet (National Gallery), Kon-Tiki Museum and Vigelandsparken (Vigeland Sculpture Park). - The Nasjonalgalleriet houses Norway's largest range of Nordic, Norwegian and international art from 1800 to the present day. In particular, look out for the dynamic works of Edvard Munch (1863–1944).
- In Oslo's Kon-Tiki Museum, you can see the raft that carried Thor Heyerdahl on his expeditions to the Galapogos Islands, the Easter Islands and Peru. You can also learn more about his series of voyages and discoveries.
- The Vigelandsparken in Oslo has more than 1 million visitors a year. Once you're in the park, you'll see why. It contains more than 200 sculptures by Gustav Vigeland (1869 – 1943). These are in cast iron, bronze and granite and set in a beautiful landscape.
- At Akershus festning, take a guided tour and try to be present for the changing of the guards at 1:30 pm. As for the Opera House, book to see a concert or show on one of the three stages, or simply admire the building from the outside.
